What information is needed before buying a packing machine?
A useful machine recommendation starts with the packing job, not with a model number. Prepare the product, pack, output, utility and commercial details below before comparing quotations.
Seven information groups that make quotations easier to compare.
2. Fill-weight range
3. Pouch / film requirement
4. Required production output
5. Installation utilities
6. Required options
7. Commercial requirement
A supplier should be able to understand the job from this brief.
You do not need to know the final filler or machine configuration in advance. The purpose of the brief is to make the requirement specific enough for a meaningful technical discussion.

Resolve the technical inputs before comparing supplier quotations.
Calculate required pouches per minute
Convert daily, hourly or kg/hour production targets into a practical ppm requirement.
PouchReview VFFS pouch-format terminology
Prepare pouch dimensions, film and sealing details instead of relying only on a pouch name.
FillerUnderstand auger vs cup filler
See how current catalogue filler directions differ for powders and free-flowing products.
AutomationCompare automatic vs semi-automatic
Review labour, output, utilities, flexibility and investment considerations.
Common pre-purchase information questions.
What is the minimum information needed for a packing machine quotation?
At minimum, share the product, target fill weight, pouch style and dimensions, required output and installation city. More detail on film, utilities and options makes the first recommendation more useful.
Do I need to know the exact machine model before contacting a supplier?
No. It is usually more useful to define the product and packing requirement first. The machine, filler and automation level can then be shortlisted against those inputs.
Should I send a product or pouch sample?
A sample can be useful when product behaviour, fill characteristics or pouch compatibility need to be confirmed. The supplier can advise whether a sample is required before final configuration.
Why is target speed not enough by itself?
The same headline speed can mean different things at different products, fill weights and pouch sizes. Product behaviour, filler, pouch format and actual production conditions should be reviewed together with the required output.
Turn the checklist into a configuration-based enquiry.
Share the details you already have; missing technical points can be clarified during follow-up.
